About the performers . . .
Fiona Paterson studied flute with Sheena Gordon, firstly at the Junior Academy of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and subsequently at the Music School of Douglas Academy. She is continuing her studies in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
While at Douglas Academy, Fiona performed in The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and at many other concert venues in the city. At the RSAMD Matt Thomson Hall she performed 'Chant de Linos' by Andre Jolivet with accompanist Laurina Sableviciute. She has attended the Scottish International Summer Flute School, allowing her to work with flautists such as Wissam Boustany, Peter Lloyd and Ruth Morley.
Fiona has recently returned from a concert tour of the Baltic States with Edinburgh Youth Orchestra which concluded with a performance in St Petersburg. Fiona was awarded the Ailie Cullen Memorial Prize for the most outstanding performance of the 2003 Glasgow Music Festival.
Mariko North is a third year student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she is studying for the degree of Batchelor of Music in performance. While at the RSAMD, Mariko has taken part in masterclasses with Dominique Merlet, Boris Berman, Martino Tirimo, Bernard Roberts and Stephen Kovacevich. She has also attended the Cadenza International Summer School, a course for strings and piano directed by her teacher, John Thwaites.
Mariko comes originally from Inverurie in Aberdeenshire and has played the piano from the age of seven. She has won a number of awards at the Aberdeen Music Festival, the Moray Piano Festival and for her performances in the examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. As a violinist, Mariko was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and Camerata Scotland.
At the 2003 Glasgow Music Festival, Mariko was awarded the Recital Prize.
Julia Lynch is one of Scotland's leading accompanists. Although she was born in Dublin, Julia lived in Aberdeen for a number of years before studying piano at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she now works as Staff Accompanist.
Julia is much in demand as a pianist and accompanist and performs frequently in recitals and concerts throughout the UK and abroad. She also broadcasts regularly, mainly for the BBC. Glasgow Music Festival is grateful to Julia for finding time in her busy schedule to take part in this concert.
